Your love's like Tennessee tobacco...

So it was an exciting Westfest type of weekend. Friday after work I met Tim, Tiff and Christine for some ESD deliciousness. Cross-border shopping plans discussed and good times had by all. Hung out with Tim for a little bit afterwards catching up on stuff. Then it was home time to drop off all my work gear, watch the beginning of the Pens/Wings game (YAY PENS!!) and then turn around and head out to meet Pietro for Westfest. Mixed up some gin and tonic for my water bottle, put on my headphones and caught the bus to Tunneys. Pietro was already waiting for me when we got there because for some reason it took at least 15 mins for a bus to take me from downtown to Tunneys... booooooooo! Why must OC suck for the few times that I take it... Anyways, we took a leisurely walk through Westboro- thought we'd manage to get to the LCBO before closing to get some more liquor to re-fill my water bottle... because really I'm a classy lassy like that... or really, it's an outdoor festival and I don't feel like paying highway robbery prices for my plastic cup of beer... Unfortunately we missed getting to the LCBO in time. We proceeded onto Westfest and to see Danny Michel. Awesome times! He was playing with a backup band- which doesn't happen often. About halfway through the show John George found me. He was totally hammered- very amusing. So he and his friends hung out with us for the rest of the show. Afterwards, we tried to figure out what to do next and they were heading downtown to Oz for a friend's birthday so we passed on that. We meandered back on through Westboro and wound up at the Carleton Tavern for some quarts and wings. A nice relaxed night. Caught the bus back downtown at 2am and finally home and bed.

Saturday I finished up working on my paper for the atip course- RFID technology and privacy implications. Writing the paper just made me even more paranoid about having no privacy... I went out for coffee and walking with George to unwind a bit after. And then it was Westfest part two. Bussed it out to Westboro and met Pietro at Tunneys again. Walked our way up into Westboro and cut up Gilchrist to get to Wellington... just to walk by Dave's house. And he and Amy were sitting outside with pussies in their laps... Quick hellos but kept on booting it with Pietro to catch the LCBO before close this time. Managed to get there with all of ten minutes to spare so picked out some drinks and the went over to the Superstore for something to eat and then we slowly walked through all the Westfest fun! Meandered on through the crowd til we got to the park where the music was and again drifted in through the beer tent side and found somewhere to sit and hang out. Slowly drinking the evening way. We left a little bit before Prairie Oyster finished since I had to find some, uh, facilities but then we did come back through to right about where we were to see the encore. It was like a total flashback of when I was there with Jay last year. Odd deja vu feeling. After the show was over we walked back up through Westboro- stopped at the Candy Store to see if there was anything tasty but alas no... so then we hopped the bus downtown to kick it at the James Street Pub watching UFC. Good times had by all!

Sunday was just as exciting with breakfast at Baker Street in Westboro... love that place so much! Leftover Kahlua was poured into morning coffee... mmm... tasty. Saw the familia in the afternoon for coffee at Morala and walking around the Glebe...

Now for the excitement of this week.... ooooooooooooh...aaaaaaaaaaaaah... Going to kick it at the gym today since I've been so lazy lately. Need the activity of it.

Ever she flows

I've spent a lot of time with Jay lately because I've been available and the boy hasn't. Jay will be calling for the boy and then has wound up hanging out with me instead. On Thursday Jay called to hang out walking and so I went as I wasn't doing anything else. We walked the Canal and drifted my the Loblaws on Isabella. I mainly sat around and listened to him talk. And fuck can he talk. I don't know. It ran the usual gamut of topics and we had a good time. Eventually I realized how late it was and I went home...

Friday and after e-mailing with Pietro during that I called to see if he was up for checking out Westfest and Joel Plaskett or if he was too busy studying. He was down with seeing Joel Plaskett so I strapped on my blades and skated over... rough roads to the path... eeek! I got to his condo and I changed into the shoes I brought- re-packed my bag opting to leave my skates behind and Pietro and I start walking to Westfest. Good talking along the way and we get to the park just before Joel Plaskett and the Emergency hit the stage. Find our way through the barriers and realize hmmm we're in the beer garden. *shrug* Find our way to the front and then Joel Plaskett came on. Totally awesome show!!! Hilarious girls in front of us who weren't really digging the show but did a lot of picture taking of each other (Pietro and I are totally in the background of so many of their pictures!), and the gratuitous two girls kissing and finally the best was the girl rolling a joint- she even had the mini-grinder. When we saw them doing that we just could not stop laughing and P leans over to me and comments- someone should've pre-rolled... hahaha. So ridiculous but girlie did manage to roll it and pass it around between the 4 of them. They finish smoking and then disperse out of the crowd. Definitely some funny entertainment during the show. Joel Plaskett was fun- he gave a shout out to my fave Thrush Hermit song which was cool- only thing was he didn't play one song that I had been hoping for. But meh, I survived. After the show we drifted down through Westboro. Thought we'd hit up the Works for a milkshake- but no dice...as was the case with a bunch of places on that first strip. We wound up at O'Connells for a pint but food was not in the cards because the kitchen was not open. So when we got back to his place we had crackers and hummus.... mmmmmmmm tasty. Finally made it home after an exhilarating bus ride where smoking apparently became optional and the driver decided to motor pass the Kent St stop even though I'd dinged it... which led to my yelling out for the bus to be stopped because I had called it. buh. Splendid!

Saturday was all about the Ferraris! The boy and I went down to Carling and Preston to watch all the Ferraris and racing and laps. The rain held off so that was good. The cars were so awesome. Good speed trial things and some wicked burn outs! Took a ton of pics and video. I don't know why I like this event so much but man! It's just so awesome to watch. Wandered home and hung out for awhile. Jay called and talked to the boy. He wanted to see what he was up to that night but the boy was off to the Oak in Kanata for Brian's birthday. Anyways, I thought I was seeing Pietro for Westfest again so I was busy... however, later when I called I wasn't able to reach him and surprisingly hadn't heard back from him so I was settling in for the night when the phone rang... Jay. All class. He decided to give a last call before heading out to Westfest so I decided to pack it in and go out instead of spending the night in. Met him at Bank and Cooper and we bussed down. Did that classy drinking gin and tonic from the water bottle thing and then we detoured to the LCBO before going to the park. Climbed the usual barriers and staked out a place to watch the show from. The crowd was way different from the last night as Buffy St. Marie was the headlining act... So more of a sitdown thing. We snagged a grassy patch and proceeded to enjoy the show. I had cheesy popcorn in my bag so munched away with my ghetto liquor in water bottle thing. I actually really enjoyed the show. I was skeptical about it at first but on balance it was a good night. Afterwards we followed the flow of the crowd down Richmond and Jay wanted to head to the bus- I did persuade him to walk some... In fact normally I would have just walked all the way back downtown... nice weather, I wasn't all alone so yah... but after our slow walk he wore me down with wanting to take the bus. Caught the bus at Tunney's and yah. Chatted a lot more. Eventually we headed to ESD because I wanted poutine. He made fun of me for calling it ESD instead of calling it Elgin Street Diner... slick. Only thing is I didn't think about the time when we were heading over and it was just gone 2am so all the bars were emptying out and so we get in line and hem and haw for a moment to decide should we ditch it and go to Dunn's instead but stuck with it and the wait wasn't long just highly obnoxious. Some annoying fucker was pushing us when we were at the front of the line and seriously there was plenty of room to just walk around so I asked him to please not touch so what does he do? Proceeds to touch me again- pushing me aside and says that he's not trying to cut in line, he's just looking for his friends, I reply to him that I don't care even if he is cutting in line but to please NOT TOUCH ME. Fucker touches me again to see around me so the twelve year old in me grabbed his cap and tossed into the crowd. Jay starts to laugh. Buddy turns around to me and then attempts to spit on my face but instead drools all down his shirt. Way hawt! Got seated right after that and ordered some delicious ESD poutine... mmmmm bacon, onions and poutine together at last. It was good. Rest of the night was quiet and stuff.

Le garcon stayed out in Kanata so I had a quiet start to Sunday. Pietro was writing an exam so no breakfast outing. Just lounged around watching tv and reading. In the afternoon I was supposed to got out with Pietro and Kristen but I felt too lazy in light of all the rain so just stayed in vegging.

I have a training course for the second half of this week that I'm quasi looking forward to. I picked it out and all but I'm just hoping that it won't be really dry. It will however be useful...

grrrrr

Itchy feet

The spell breaks with Matthaeus. For all his sporadic e-mails, yesterday's was I guess the most shallow- fitting with the subject line of- even a deep lake has a surface. So very true, with him... His last reply to me left me a bit stranded as to what to write back and just illuminated that he has me down all wrong. I took a diplomatic route in pointing that out and struggled with what to reply to his, um, request and then today when I checked my e-mail, I re-read what he'd written and how I'd responded and then it was suddenly meh, whatever. Write back or don't. You were awesome to meet and talk to but over e-mail you remind me of that guy who's trying to score on the first date but trying to do it with I don't know? Pretension? At any rate I suddenly was reminded of this guy Barry whom I briefly dated in uni who kept trying to get into my pants but I wasn't really interested and I just didn't care. With M though, it's kind of a shame. He is really intelligent with a lot to say and maybe I screwed up by not talking a lot when we were together but then my sister was there and I found it more interesting to listen to what she had to say and just generally observe her. That sounds odd, but when you've seen me and my sister together and our complete dissimilarity it does make sense. Plus I don't know what to make of the lines that M spun to me, which seem to be the same lines he spun to her. Blah.

Having that case of itchy feet. Wednesday was Sukkot and I went with the family to Berel's for supper in the sukkah. Ariel was visiting from Israel so had a bit of chat with her about that. She transferred there for her second year of university and has been there for the last eight years- finished school and is working with a think tank. She is currently looking for work in North America because she's had her fill of Israel for now. And right now with that feeling of neither here nor there it has me thinking and looking at different options... well to a certain extent. I don't hate my job or my life but it all feels blah. And I know it's one of those myths that people are happier elsewhere because in the end people are the same everywhere... but a change of scenery feels in order right now. And I guess this is all still residual feelings from coming back from Poland and seeing the differences there and if Tim and I manage the UK trip in November it'll just exacerbate that feeling, but I don't think that that's such a bad thing.

Finally went out and saw Tiffy's new house in Munster yesterday with Tim. They met me after work and we gorged ourselves on ESD poutine before going back to my house. Dropped stuff off and then we began our drive out to the 'country.' Tim and I were our charming selves on the way- teasing Tiff about living in Munster and she was really good about it. Her house is fucking fantastic!! Really gorgeous kitchen and main-level; love the hardwood floors. The rec room and den downstairs have an awesome set up- very comfy couch. Backyard is pretty big and Tim and I sat on the canopied porch swing thing while Tiff kept chasing Calvin away from trying to jump on the pool liner cover thing. Absolutely awesome!! Drive back into the city with Tim was a bit of a jolt when on Richmond two deer ran out in front of my car- thank you responsive brakes! Oh and thank-you pick up truck behind me for not rear-ending me on sudden stop. Confirmation that I do indeed have a heart and it does seem to work... jumped right in the throat with the deer. After getting back to my place Tim and I walked to his place so he could change shirts before going to Aloha. So I also got to see his new place :) His bachelor is really cute. Well decorated and good use of a smaller space. I really liked it!! Did up some drinks at Aloha- both of us in mellow/happy moods. It was a really good night.

So I says, I says to Mabel, I says...

All right so Friday's Lonestar outing proved a little more interesting than I thought it would. Firstly was seeing Mark, Etta and Joeann there. Yay! I have seen them in ages. When Mark came over and we had our quick littler catch up I found out that he's working in my old section- he likes it right now because he says he actually gets to use his brain for this- which is true enough at the beginning since there's such a steep learning curve but then it all settles down. He didn't stick around too long because he surely had plans with his girlfriend. My ongoing 'battle' with Ryan seemed to continue because when he showed up he sat basically as far as he could from me... prompting me Pietro to start giggling like twelve year olds and having Pietro whisper to me that he didn't think Ryan could get any further without moving to another table. Like at the Oak a couple weeks ago I kept my manners and grace and at the end of the evening whence doing the table round for hugs and handshakes and goodnights I did get to Ryan last and I extended my hand and I guess he was a little drunk at this point and feeling a little bit sheepish? He looks at me and stutters to me about how I've been ignoring him tonight- I giggle at this and lean into him and reply that he arrived after me and sat as far as possible as he could from me...'uh, it wasn't on purpose. I mean I didn't notice' ...yes... then continues with the 'I think we got off on the wrong foot'.... hmmmm, we've known each other for many months now, we didn't get off on the wrong foot, you just never got back to me about meeting me for pictures exhange and such...and after our sober coffee outing you seemed a little put out because you weren't getting close to getting in my pants. Anyway, more placating/patronizing things were said, ending with him saying we should do something soon. Yes. Right. Oi! I say that and in the next little while I'll wind up e-mailing him and he'll revert back to being a jerk and I'll again wonder why did I bother... buh! Also had a foot in mouth and six degrees of separation kind of moment with Patrick. Patrick actually isn't part of the Fort Mac kids but the outing was for Kelly's birthday and Patrick is one of her [former] bosses whom she got along with quite well. He's actually also one of my former bosses and one of the bosses that I really liked and respected for his professionalism as professionalism not always so rampant where I was before. Slight foot in mouth comment came when Pat was talking about his girlfriend and I thought he was in a much longer term relationship and then ooops ever since his divorce... yikes, did not know that... Then talking about playing ball hockey and so I asked him if he's in the James Patrick league- as there aren't many indoor ball hockey leagues and yes he's in that league... part of the Tuesday night teams. Hahahahahahaha. This was very classic my life and the connections in it....! For summer ball hockey he'll be playing at the Bell dome thing near Britannia... weird. Next Fort Mac gathering will be for Pietro and Nikki's birthdays and won't be for another month or so but will involve karaoke... oi! This time I'm definitely not participating... well unless I'm nice and drunk.

Saturday I coffeed with Tym- who is my best friend ever! From this most recent UK pairing he had he managed to bring me the Dr. Who soundtrack. Yes, so lame and yes, big nerd here! First soundtrack I've really ever wanted but I just liked the scores by Murray Gold for the show. And as the show is not so popular here the soundtrack is not so available... so with Tym's frequent UK trips this was easy enough to do. We had a super good chat catching up and then the usual offshoots. Now there's still shopping this week. Evening was not going to be so eventful with Sean coming over so when Spiff called I went and picked her up. We went to Montana's for drinks and I got the 'whole' story about her Chris the house and the sale of the house and all the options/procedures. She just needed to vent it all out and as last time we got together- Thursday at ESD- Chris was there so she couldn't just get it all out. At any rate, it's all going to take some time. Real estate agent coming on Thursday to do the valuation and then going on from that point... but it could theoretically take up to a year... very much understand her frustration though.... It was odd to see her on a Saturday night and be going for drinks 'cause I can't remember the last time we hung out on a Saturday night.

The Sunday coming will be a Nu Den class thing and this time Jen will be able to make it. So it should be good giggles. Passover next week as well and a short week to boot. Go team!

I've been kicking ass at the gym recently and have actually completely enjoyed my results. So I don't really have a propensity for gaining weight and going on depo did not make me gain weight... being lazy is why I was gaining weight. Not that I really gained massive amounts or that my pants size changed but it's one of those 'are you fucking serious?' when I look down at the scale now and see what came off! I just don't know where I was storing all the extra fat... it can't all have been ghetto booty... hehehe. Who knew? All I needed was some cardio... hahahaha.

Season of discontent

Oi.
Will this winter just never end? I know it got off to a late start... but it has been such an up and down winter and I am more than ready for it to end. I can handle steady cold but this +10 to -28 does not do it for me. Last week I was able to start wearing my Jacob trench coat because the rain started to melt the snow away and then it went and got cold... again... snowed down another 5cm and the temperature dropped all over. -25 with windchill right now and Thursday is being forecast as 14 and rainy...

I want to wear my pretty spring clothes again... I miss skirts... blah.

Work maintains its excitement with the budget now delivered and cringing to see what happens between now and next week. Don't know how much busier it might get. Supposed to be taking Friday off this week. And then it's also Lonestar dinner with the Fort Mac kiddies. My dad gets back from New York tonight so I'm on airport pick up duty.

St. Patty's Day this past weekend was good drinking times. Didn't much feel like St. Patty's with the snow and the cold and it was busy everywhere because it was a Saturday so really everywhere was busy! Ian called a couple of times in the afternoon and was stinking drunk not making any sense saying he was lost in Quebec and finally figured out that he was out with Dan somewhere in Aylmer. He called when he got home and mumbled about losing his cell phone and was still on about where George and I were going out to... told him we weren't heading out just yet... still only 9pm or so... he said to call him before we left and was sounding marginally more sober. George gave him a call back when Mike was almost at our place and Ian was in no shape to go out in the end. Went out with George and Mike and we wound up doing a tour around of Elgin Street and the Market to see what was going on and what didn't have a massive line-up and finally settled on Griffin's. Much alcohol was consumed and dancing occurred. Having Mike drive us home was the usual frustration of his search for after bar pizza... everytime we get a ride home with him it's this huge thing to get pizza afterwards... basically spending another hour to go get food. Although this time as we were parked off Elgin and closer to centertown we just ditched Mike and did the 15 minute walk home... and walk in to Mike leaving a message on the machine...hahahaha. It was quite funny. Sunday was Spiff's birthday and we didn't manage to coordinate anything... didn't call her early enough/couldn't decide what to do... and so on! Monday was take two for that and she forgot the food plan and had started to make dinner for her and Chris so now we're onto take three which should be Thursday and will either involve ESD and poutine or the Merivale shopping circuit thing... Sunday I saw 300 at the IMAX with George... and yah, it was uh, amusing. I liked seeing it on the IMAX and as for the movie, meh! If you liked Sin City you'll probably like 300 as they are both based on Frank Miller novellas. I had a good time of it.

Tym left to do his UK turnaround thing yesterday- won't be back til Friday so won't do anything til next week. My request was the usual duty free gin and my only UK request was the soundtrack that I want. So jealous though of all the shopping he will manage to do. Must go to Montreal soon and do an H&M trip... blah.
